Uzbekistan 2012 cotton harvest: continued state-sponsored forced labour of children and adults

The 2012 cotton harvest in Uzbekistan has concluded, and the system of forced labor of cotton production remained the same as in previous years. On Dec 20, human rights groups issued the Review of the 2012 Cotton Harvest, which explains that the forced labor system was carried out with a demographic shift to older children and more adults, accompanied with an unprecedented scale of corruption
Retailers in Britain are being pressured to boycott the cotton, but it is difficult to trace Uzbek cotton back to its source. Much of it ends up in Bangladesh and China. As a result, many fashion chains cannot guarantee that their clothing is free of Uzbek cotton
